<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoAT4baSJOfSkkEAg1B5cvKiFlg0gxIG5ipIuoQexXgFOHU9PR1DNShJ3tLGQAHi1IzwKcAv8_LVutFgyRzGiG86mMN8ZM9ztE6gC-agNkYkmBhBiKK84PliKZlRa2e1sQTek2SPLyLT7e/s1600/police1.jpg"/><br /><br /><br />Men of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, under the office of Commissioner of Police, Mobile Police, on Tuesday morning, rounded up some fake and improperly dressed policemen during a raid around the River Niger Bridge area, at the Asaba/Onitsha boundary.<br />The men, led by a Superintendent ofPolice, Aniete Eyo, were sighted around the bridge head as early as 9am, with a van with the inscription,‘Police Mobile Force Monitoring Unit,COMPLO MOPOL Office, Force HQ, Abuja’, parked strategically close by.<br />Several riot policemen, some not fully dressed in police uniform, took to their heels on sighting the unit, just as unlucky ones were apprehended and forced into the waiting van.<br />While efforts to speak with Eyo was rebuffed, as he retorted, “I am not ready here to speak with reporters,”another operative on the team, however, volunteered information on the development.<br />According to the officer, who requested that his name should not be mentioned, because he was not authorised to speak, the PMU was going round formations around the country, in compliance with the IG’s directive on discipline on his assumption of office.<br />He said, “We just arrested six policemen wearing illegal T-shirts and monkey jackets on top police uniform. Another wore mufti face cap on top of khaki monkey jacket. The other wore something that has police colour lining on the shoulder with the inscription, Gwoza – I have been there , on the back.<br />“We remove two (mobile policemen) on illegal escort duty from inside a Sport Utility Vehicle. A fake policeman was also arrested from a hideout, from where they hatch their operations of harassing people, while others ran away. Another one was caught with Pump Action gun. We arrested all of them and we are still moving around.<br />“The CP has made spirited efforts to get some arrested before the arrivalof the IG’s team.”<br />When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed that the monitoring unit came from Abuja.<br />Aduba, via an SMS wrote, “IGP’s monitoring unit under the office of COMPOL MOPOL is touring round and have made arrests. Man jailed three years for importingfake drugs

<img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M7pgyj-Aqas/Tj_dvJhxGrI/AAAAAAAAcU4/FywSizRer-0/s1600/arrest+dragging.JPG"/><br /><br /><br />A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a middle-aged man, Uzoma Madueke, to three years imprisonment with hard labour for importing fake Fulcin tablets into the country.<br />Justice Okon Abang in a judgment on Tuesday held that the convict chose to indulge in a venture that could result in the death of Nigerians.<br />The judge said, “Such abnormal behaviour requires drastic action. The action of the convict is bad because there are other legitimate means to make money.<br />“If not for the vigilance of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in apprehending the convict, anybody could have been a victim of the fakedrug, even the court.”<br />Madueke, had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge instituted against him by NAFDAC.<br />However, he later confessed to the commission of the crime.<br />His lawyer, Mr. O. Amobi, pleading with the court to temper justice with mercy, said his client was a first offender, who had learnt a bitter lesson.<br />He believed the convict would no longer indulge in the crime.<br />The offence, according to the one count charge signed by MHA Baba, was committed on June 25, 2009 in Epe, Lagos.<br />The charge read, “That you, Uzoma Madueke of No 47, Lagos Road, Epe, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, on or about the 25th day of June, 2009, did import fake and substandard tablets to wit:Fulcin Criseofulvina Tablets and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Food (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No 25of 1999 and punishable under Section 3 (1) (a) of the same Act.”<br />During the review of facts before the judgment was delivered, NAFDAC’s counsel, Chris Okeke, said Madueke intentionally imported thefake drug in order to make maximum profit not minding the side effect of his action to Nigerians.<br /><br /><br /><div clear:both><a href="https://twitter.com/don4mula" class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false">Follow @don4mula</a> <script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");</script></div>

The seven other persons that were injuredincluded two females and five males while two other persons were unhurt.<br />After we got information about the accident, we sent our rescue team to the crash site and evacuated all the affected victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Hospital and the police took possession of the victim’s property to avoid being stolen by hoodlums.”<br />The Sector Commander blamed the accident on over speeding and cautioned tanker drivers against parking indiscriminately on the roadside without adequate warning signs.<br />He said the Commission had been sensitizing drivers of heavy duty trucks on the consequences of parking vehicles on the roadside without adequate warning signs, saying “In any circumstance, should a trailer, truck or lorry break down on the road, the drivers of such vehicles should indicate that there is a vehicle on the road byputting either leaves, triangle sign or stones. It occurred between 10:50pm and 11pm. In fact, people who were close to me will tell you that even after the election, I told them that in my first 12 months please cover your ears because you will hearall kinds of things. But as we progress, you will see (changes).<br />“We are working very hard to stabilise power. We are working very hard to resurface our roads. We have security challenges, which we are also working very hard to bring to reasonable control. It is not easy; we don’t have the magic wand, except the miracle worker who with the wave of the hand, probably will help to throw all these challenges away and prosperity will appear. But in pure governance issues, it takes time.<br />“Sometimes, even people who have held offices in government criticise me to the extent of personal abuses. <br /><br />Sometimes I ask, were there roads across the country and Jonathan brought flood to wipeout these roads? Or we had power and I brought hurricane to break down the entire infrastructure?<br />“If they say Boko Haram is because of poverty; were there massive irrigation projects in the North where agriculture canthrive and massive farms, and Jonathan brought drought to wipe out these farms? Under two years, is it possible?<br />“Well, time will tell. What I can tell Nigerians is that let those who criticise continue to criticise.<br />“We will do our best and as we progress, Nigerians will know the truth and we’ll see that we are committed and will surely transform this country,” he said.<br />Jonathan said his administration considered the NBA as a partner in progress and commended the association for choosing a topical theme for the conference. The theme, “Nigeria as an Emerging Market: Redefining our Laws and Politics for Growth”, according to him, was in line with the public-private-partnership-oriented policy of his administration.<br />He urged the association to review its rules of engagement,which he said, barred its officers from directly getting involved in day-to-day governance either in an advisory or participatory capacity. He disclosed that he had appointed the outgoing President of the NBA, Joseph Daudu (SAN), as Honorary Legal Adviser, but he (Daudu) declined the offer based on the rules of engagement of the association.<br />Jonathan said he was still willing to appoint the incoming President of the association to the position if the rule could be reviewed.<br />The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Adoke (SAN), in his goodwill message, said the theme of the conference took cognisance of the synergy between economy, law, government and the private sector. <br /><br />Adoke noted that the position of Nigeria as an emerging market in the globe was not in doubt but there was the need to review the country’s business laws to attract investments. <br /><br />He said his office had taken various initiatives toward making relevant laws that would make Nigeria the favourite investment destination for investors.<br />Guest speaker at the conference, Very Rev Matthew Kukah, berated the media for portraying Nigeria in bad light using negative reportage, which he said, could discourage investors.<br />Kukah, a Catholic Bishop, in a speech titled “Nigeria, an Emerging Democracy”, agreed with former CBN Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, that Nigeriawas an economic miracle waiting to happen.<br />He said for the national miracle to happen, the political class needed to be creative by initiating programmes that would win the trust and commitment of the followership.<br />Kukah also admonished the followership to believe in the country and endeavour to contribute their quota toward the development of the country. Her memory will never be forgottenbecause she touched so many lives positively in her short stay on earth,” she said.<br /><br />Osokogu said Cynthia’s killers had demanded N20 million ransom from the family.<br /><br />“The killers of my daughter demanded a ransom of N20 million from my son, Flt- Lt. Kenneth Osokogu,” she said.<br /><br />Osokogu said the killers sent her son, who is in Makurdi, a text message demanding that he paid N20million into an account which did not exist.<br /><br />“The killers were not picking our calls; they only communicated to us via text messages.<br /><br />“When my son got their SMS, he later replied them that the account number was fake and didn’t exist.<br /><br />“He sent another message in which he said that if it was a case of kidnapping, he would like to speak with his sister before making any payment but the killers did not respond,” Osokogu said.<br /><br />She said, however, that when she spoke with the suspected killers, they did not ask her for any money.<br /><br />Osokogu said she spoke last with Cynthia on July 22, when she called to say that she was travelling to Lagos to get her goods.<br /><br />“But the next day, I didn’t hear from her. When I tried to reach her, all her phones were switched off.<br /><br />“After one week, the phones started ringing but no one was picking.<br /><br />“Few days later, people I believe to be the killers, called and said that my daughter was in one Symbol Hospital in Lagos.<br /><br />“I called the police I had earlier reported the case to, to go and verify if she was in the hospital,they said there was no hospital like that.<br /><br />“After a while, I called the number and told them I wantedto speak with her but they said that it was not possible.<br /><br />“When I asked why, they said she would come back but that I wouldn’t speak with her.<br /><br />“When I called the number again, they said they had killed her and that was when we declared Cynthia missing,’’ Osokogu said..<br /><br />The police in Lagos last week announced the arrest of some persons in connection with the murder of Cynthia. We went to his residence immediately where we saw his wife and childrenwho confirmed it.<br />“The wife and children were held atgunpoint by the kidnappers. But they raised the alarm after the gunmen had left with him. The gunmen broke his bedroom’s window. They pointed a gun at him threatening to kill him, if he refusedto open the door leading into his apartment.<br />“We don’t know if he is still alive or has been killed. We don’t know if they are hired killers or kidnappers. We are not suspecting anybody or group for now, but we had a rift with a neighbouring community in Biseni clan recently.”<br />When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Kingsley Omire, confirmed the incident but said the police had been deployed in the area.<br />He said, “We are aware of the incident. Our men and a very senior officer are already there. The DPO, Biseni is already on ground. 3 friends found dead in Emir son’s house

Tragedy struck in the Ringim Local government Area of Jigawa on Friday when three friends were found dead in a room.<br />The dead friends were identified as Ali Tajo, Mustapha Murtala and Nasiru Shehu .<br />The three lived and died in a house, belonging to one of the sons of the Emir of Ringim, Alhaji Mahmoud Sayyadi.<br />Malam Magaji Tambura, a bricklayer working at the house, said that he came to the scene at about 7 am. to pick tools that he hadused to work the previous day.<br />He said that when he knocked on the door, there was no response, making neighbours to force the door open to see the dead bodies of the three friends.<br /> “My friend and I were at Syadi’s house to take our working tools but on getting there, we met the door locked which is unusual at that hour.<br />“We met three of them lying down with their faces down and their mouth foaming and I immediately called their names but none of themresponded,” he said.<br />A resident of the area who gave his name as Ahmed Danlami, expressedshock over the tragedy that had befallen the town.<br />Danlami said the three friends must have inhaled generator fumes in the course of the night.<br />But another resident, Adamu Saleh, speculated that the dead young men must have abused drugs beforethey went to bed, saying that they were suspected to be drug addicts.<br />Saleh said that the matter was reported to the police and that the corpses had been taken to the hospital for medical examination.<br />When contacted, the PPRO of the Jigawa State Police Command, Malam Abdu Jinjiri, said that the police had been informed of the matter but that they were yet to getdetails from the Divisional Police Officer at the Ringim Local Government Area. A 53-year-old trader, Nzewi Donatus is currently facing a two-count charge at the Ojo Magistrate court, Lagos, for having canal knowledge of his daughter, Oluchi Nzewi , 18, without her consent which is an offense under section 258 of the criminal laws of Lagos state.<br />He is also being charged for threatening to kill one Ngozi Emeka, for reporting him to the police which is punishable under section 56 of the criminallaws of Lagos state Nigeria.<br />Donatus, a tenant at No. 11, Akoberu street by Cele bustop, Ojo was reported to the police by Ngozi Emeka who is a friend to the deceased wife of Donatus after he, (Donatus) chased his daughter out of the house because she accused himof having s-x with her.<br />Oluchi, who appeared before the court narrated her shocking side of the story. She alleged that the father has been havingcanal knowledge of her for five years after the death of her mother.<br />“My father has been having s-x with me whenever I am asleep and there is this drink he always forced me to drink before I sleep and when I wakeup, I do noticed sperm all over my body. When I asked him, hewill deny it and warn me never to ask him such question.<br />On the 15th day of August when I woke up, I noticed such on my body again and this time,I was bold enough to ask him but when I did, he beat me up and sent me out of the house. So, I went to one Ngozi for shelter and when I narrated mypains to her, she quickly ran to the police to file a report,” she lamented.<br />Crime Guard gathered from a reliable source that ever since his wife died,the suspect has been maltreating his daughter by even sitting with her at a bartaking alcoholic drinks.<br />He also allegedly chases away any male friend that comes visiting his daughter. Some people who never knew his reasons for doing such thought he was preventing them from the corrupt society little did they know that he was doing so for his own selfish interest.<br />Crime Guard also learnt that when he was invited to the police station, he never showedany remorse but instead he wasdisturbing and causing nuisance at the station. He also allegedly threatened to kill Ngozi Emeka for reporting “a case that did not concern her” to the police.<br />Another witness who pleaded anonymity also disclosed that he saw Donatus beating his daughter but when he tried interfering, he got the worst insult of his life. “When I heard Oluchi screaming for help, I ran to see if I could talk to his father. <br /><br />But when I tried doing so, he gave me the worst insult of my life accusing me of having a secret affair with his daughter. Pastor in alleged rape of 12yr-old girl gets bail

After seven months in detention over allegation of defiling a 12-year-old primary six pupil; Mathew Onakoya, 32, was on Friday granted bail by an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.<br />The defendant, who claimed to be a pastor, was first arraigned on Dec. 29, 2011 and charged with alleged rape of the girl on Christmas eve.<br />Saturday Vanguard gathered that at his arraignment the ‘pastor’ pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in prison custody by the court.<br />Mr T.O. Shomade, the magistrate, ordered that the defendant should be remandedin custody pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).<br />At the resumed hearing, Shomade said that the legal advice from the DPP had established a prima facie case against the defendant.<br />”A case of rape has been established against the accusedand he is admitted to bail in thesum of N500, 000 with two sureties,” the magistrate said.<br />He also ordered that both sureties <br />must be residents of Lagos and must each deposit the sum of N30, 000 with the Lagos State High Court registry.<br />During Onakoya’s arraignment, the prosecutor, ASP Friday Eze told the court that the defendant, a resident of Ojo-Igbede Road, allegedly committed the offence on Dec. 24. 2011.<br />He had said that the defendant had invited the teenager to his residence at about 9:00 p.m. with a promise to give her some money to purchase fireworks popularly called “knock out”.<br />Eze had said that after the money was given to the girl, the defendant seized her and raped her.<br />The prosecutor had said that the offence contravened Section 158 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2011.Shomade adjourned the case toOctober. 8 for trial.<br /><br /><div clear:both><a href="https://twitter.com/don4mula" class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false">Follow @don4mula</a> <script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");</script></div>

The man, Abdulrahman Sulaiman, was a Man-O-War volunteer who went to the Women Multi-Purpose Center inGusau to help organize a preaching session organized by the state’s Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs for women during the holy month of Ramadan.<br />According to the police prosecutors three women, Hannatu Ibrahim [23], Wosila Hassan [20] and Rukayya Hassan [21] conspired among themselves and serially raped Abdulrahman until he lost consciousness! How did this happen? The prosecutors said they lured him into a corner of the Women’s Centre, where they “forced” him to make love with them in turn until poor Abdulrahman fell unconscious. It was said that he was rushed to hospital, where he was later resuscitated.<br />The three women have now been remanded in prison custody until Monday next week, when witnesses will be called to the court to testify against them.<br />I suspect that half of Gusau town will turn up in court on that day to hear the evidence against the three“conspirators.” If the three women and the man in question actually did what they were alleged to havedone 1] at a preaching session 2] during the month of Ramadan 3] when the centre was brimming with other women and children, then it will be a new low in religious morality in this part of the world.<br />The evidence will however be very interesting and it may force this country’s lawyers and jurists to have to rewrite the law on rape. Some years ago, I heard a senior lawyer say on television that the law on rape as it stands today does not envisage a woman raping a man, unless if he is a minor who is seduced by a much older woman. Otherwise, the lawyer said, “a woman cannot really rape a man because it requires his willing cooperation” to effect the act.<br />It will be interesting to see if the witnesses will say Abdulrahman shouted for help while he was being raped. Or what the three women used to force his cooperation—a gun or a knife, for instance. Anatomically speaking, while a man can successfully rape awoman who is not cooperating but who goes limp at gunpoint, the same can hardly be said of the reverse case. A man who has a gun or a knife pointed at him and goes limp cannot be successfully raped!<br />My only fear with this story is that many men in Gusau and around thisNigeria will wistfully wish that theywere the ones that were raped. Mark you, the three alleged “conspirators” are young women hardly out of teen ages. They will find many willing takers in Gusau and elsewhere in Nigeria without resorting to any force! A 40-year-old man, Simpa Okomagi, recently pleaded with an Agege Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve his marriage of 11 years.<br />The father of two accused his wife, Margaret, of being irresponsible, disobedient and stealing properties in the home to satisfy her needs.<br />He claimed that his wife drinks a lot and often comes home drunk and due to that, the marriage has to be dissolved.<br />“I am pleading for this divorce due to my wife’s irresponsibility to her two children and her habit of always coming home drunk.<br />“My first child is a girl and she is fouryears old. The other one is a boy andhe is four months old. My wife knows the situation of the second born, yet, she wouldn’t come back home early to cater for him.<br />“I have given her money many times to start her own business, but at the end of the day, she cannot boast of one good thing the money was used for. Most of the time she takes valuables from the house to sell, then comes back drunk at night.<br />“The last straw was when she lied to me that she was taking the children for their end of the year’s party, which she didn’t do. Instead, she took them to her mother’s place in Badagry to stay.<br />“On getting there to ask for my children, her mother came out with a cutlass and threatened me not to enter the house. I am fed up.”<br />Margaret didn’t refute the allegations levelled against her.<br />She said, “Three days after our wedding, his mother started complaining about me. Anytime my husband wants to do something or buy something for me, his mother would complain about it. There is nothing I do that is right before his mother. Police kill four robbery suspects in Lagos
