THE Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on National Assembly Matters, Senator Joy Emodi yesterday described the placing of pictures of Funmilayo Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and Gambo Sawaba on the soon-to-be-introduced N5,000 by the Federal Government as a plus for Nigerian women.
According to her in a statement she signed in Abuja yesterday, the representation of the National Assembly on the new currency would help boost the country’s democracy, adding that it was a confirmation of President Jonathan’s continued recognition of the parliament as the embodiment of the people’s sovereignty exercised through their elected representatives.
Senator Emodi who commended President Jonathan for the gesture in recognising these women for their contributions to the development of the country, stressed that what the president didwas a food for thought for all Nigerians especially the elite class that their contributions to the country in times of challenges will one day be remembered as heroes or villains.
The governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi had on Thursday announced the introduction of a new currency series where the existing denominations of N50, N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 will be redesignedand a new note of N5,000 introduced.
