Man In Court For Kidnaping His Own Son

<img src="http://cache.jezebel.com/assets/images/39/2011/10/xlarge_crime.jpg"/><br /><br />Ameen Abubakar, 35, of Kurmin<br />Mashi Quarters, Kaduna, was on<br />Friday arraigned before a Kaduna<br />Sharia Court for allegedly<br />kidnapping his three-year-old son,<br />Khalifa.<br /><br />The complainant, Maryam<br />Abubakar, of the same address,<br />told the court that Abubakar, her<br />former husband, had asked her to<br />spend 40 days at her parents’<br />house after putting to bed.<br />She further told the court that<br />Abubakar had not visited or sent<br />any money for her upkeep. “The<br />only thing I received from him was<br />a divorce letter without a reason,”<br />she said.<br /><br />Maryam said that after the divorce,<br /> she discovered that Khalifa was<br /> missing and when the matter was<br /> investigated by the police, he was<br /> found in his father’s custody.<br />Counsel to the complainant, Lydia<br />Izan, said that it was the<br />responsibility of the father to take<br />care of his child and urged the court<br /> to direct him to refund what is due<br /> to the mother.<br />Counsel to the accused, Sani Sanusi,<br /> however, argued that the<br />allegation was baseless. “The father<br /> has been taking care of his child<br /> within his capacity as a tailor and<br /> he cannot carry responsibilities<br />beyond his earnings,’’ he said.<br />Sanusi added that the complainant<br />was making demands that were<br />beyond the capacity of her former<br />husband and urged the court to<br />strike out the case as there was no<br />provision in Sharia Law that says<br />“we should feed our children with<br />what we don’t have’’.<br /><br />Sanusi further demanded the sum<br />of N50, 000 compensation for time<br />wasted.<br />The judge, Usman Abubakar, said<br />that the child should be brought to<br />the court alongside three witnesses<br /> from both parties before delivering<br /> judgment in the case and<br /> adjourned the case to August 31.

Two Men In Surulere Magistrates' Court For Stabbing Another Over Girlfriend

<img src="http://img.naij.com/n/misc/04/e/knife.jpg"/><br /><br />The police in Lagos on<br /> Thursday arraigned two<br /> businessmen who allegedly<br /> stabbed a man all over his body<br /> because of a girlfriend.<br /><br />Chukwuebuka Ejiofor (28) and<br />Ekene Kanu (30) appeared before<br />a Surulere Magistrates' Court on a<br />two-count charge of conspiracy and<br /> assault.<br /><br />Ejiofor and Kanu, who reside at 8,<br />Amusa St., Bale, Orile-Iganmu, and<br />6, Agbonyin Ave., Surulere,<br />respectively, pleaded not guilty.<br /><br />The prosecutor, Gabriel Ekundayo,<br />said that the duo conspired and<br />stabbed one John Paul on July 22<br />at a hotel at Coker, Orile-Iganmu, in<br /> a dispute over Paul's girlfriend.<br /><br />Ekundayo said that trouble began<br />when Paul saw the girlfriend, Miss<br />Oluchi Nwachukwu, (18), in the<br />company of the accused where<br />they were drinking beer in the<br />hotel premises.<br /><br />The prosecutor said that Paul<br />demanded that the girlfriend<br />should follow him.<br />"He accosted her to ask of her<br />mission in the hotel but the men<br />said that the lady belonged to<br />them, and that he cannot take her<br />away.<br />"Before Paul could say another<br />word, they broke bottles and<br />stabbed him severally all over his<br />body,'' the prosecutor said.<br /><br />He said that Paul was still receiving<br />treatment in a hospital.<br />The prosecutor said that the<br />offences contravened sections 407<br />and 171 of the Criminal Code, Laws<br /> of Lagos State, 2011.<br /><br />Magistrate M.A. Ladipo granted the<br /> accused bail in the sum of N200,000<br /> each with two sureties in like sum.

A Suspect Alleged of Molesting 94 year old Woman

Johannesburg – A man who benefited from President JacobZuma’s special remissions programme appeared in court on Thursday for allegedly molesting a 94-year-old grandmother.<br /><br />Spokesman of South African Police Service (SAPS), Col. Vincent Mdunge, told newsmenin Johannesburg that the suspect is “a habitual criminal’’.<br /><br />He said that the suspect appeared at the New Hanover Magistrate Court on Thursday.<br />“The woman was molested in her KwaSwayimane home in Emabheleni Ward, at 1.00 a.m. on Saturday.<br />“Police have been looking for him for another case,” Mdunge said.<br />Mdunge confirmed that the suspect had been one of the 3,150 granted presidential parole, and that police had been searching for him for his part in an armed robbery case before the molest.<br /><br />KwaZulu-Natal Correctional Services Commissioner, Mnikelwa Nxele, confirmed that the suspect had been released at the start of the presidential remission in June.<br />Nxele said that the alleged molest was regrettable and sad.

<img/><br /><br />Nigerian Talented Actor, Emeka Ike Speaks up on His Decisio n to Quit Nollywood Temporarily.<br /><br />In an Interview by An Encomium reporter exclusively on Sunday July 22nd, the actor said:<br /><br />“I have not quit Nollywood in the real sense of the word. What I did was to withdraw all my movies from the market, and I mean all the movies that are related with Emeka Ike…and the reason is not far fetched. I am angry with what is going on in the industry. My conscience would not allow me to go on with the decay in the industry. So, I feel that was the best thing to do, to dissociate myself from the problem and stand out! So, henceforth, any Nollywood movie would not involve Emeka Ike. Rather, I want to market all my movies on the label of Emeka Ike Production. If you want to deal with me as an actor, you have to work with me under the label. That clearly separates me from Nollywood." He Concluded!
