I am quite recognizable,” says Gwendoline Christie in what will surely be remembered as one of the understatements of the year. This Sunday, she will once again be striding forcefully across our screens as the warrior Brienne of Tarth in the fifth season of Game of Thrones. Then, come November, she’ll appear as Commander Lyme in the final installment of The Hunger Games, and, a month later, she’ll show up in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars. That remarkable triple whammy aside, Christie has always stood out in a crowd, even when the crowd is made up of London’s most outré night birds. That’s one advantage of being 6'3". Add another 5 inches for the Louboutins she is never without and the physical presence is formidable. But unlike Brienne, Christie is funny, not fierce, more cocktail-swilling comedienne than Amazonian icon. That’s what we’re doing right now, drinking Negronis in Quo Vadis on a Thursday afternoon. Still, I wouldn’t want to pick a fight with her. Need a reason why? Watch her battle with The Hound at the end of GOT’s season four.
