A woman and four children have been killed in two separate road accidents in Bayelsa State.
It was learnt that the incidents occurred in the Yenagoa and Sagbama local government areas on Saturday.
It was further learnt that the Sagbama incident, which occurred at Adagbabiri junction on the East-West Road section of the state, claimed the lives of a woman and three children.
The driver of a Highlander, identified as Meeting Mayor, was said to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed into traders at the Adagbabiri junction.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Kelvin, said the deceased woman was having lunch with her children when the vehicle crashed into their shed and crushed them.“The woman was in the shed with her four children. Unfortunately, the woman and the three children have been confirmed dead. One child survived,” he said.
The eyewitness identified the deceased mother as Ruth and gave the names of the children as Favour (9), Godsgift (5) and Oghenerho (1).
He said the only survivor, identified as T-Girl, was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
In theYenagoa incident, a two-year-old girl, Kelechi Favour, was reportedly crushed to death on Osiri Road.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Favour was hit by a council driver.
The incident, according to the eyewitness, provoked anger among residents of Osiri and could have resulted in the burning of the Prado jeep, said to be the official vehicle of the council chairman.
It was gathered that although the deceased reportedly ran into the road, the driver was also accused of reckless driving by the residents..”
Speaking on the Sagbama incident, Butswat said the Highlander with registration number,YEN 726 RG, was coming from the Patani end of the East-West Road when the incident occurred.
“The vehicle rammed into shops,” the police spokesman added.
