The Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Danduje, has appealed to the Federal Government to deploy more police officers to the state. Ganduje made the appeal during a visit to Kano Government House by Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, in Charge of Logistics, Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe.
He said the state deserves more police personnel in the state, considering the fact that it is a thriving commercial centre and the most populous state in the country.
The governor lamented that some states with lesser population compared to Kano boasts of higher number of police officers.
He said the state plays host to reputable police training facilities and should be accorded the privilege of having one quarter of its graduates assigned to serve in the state.
The governor, while commenting on the challenges of cattle rustling in Kano and neighbouring states, alleged that the culprits are hiding in Falgore Forest, assuring that he is willing to work closely with the governors of Bauchi, Kaduna states to address the problem.
He warned security agencies deployed to work in the area to take into account, the fact that a large number of Fulani herdsmen are camped in the forest “they should not be mistaken for criminals”.
Ganduje hailed the Police and other security agencies in the state for their commitment towards protecting lives and property, expressing the belief that, the spirit would be maintained.
DIG Mamman Tsafe said the Nigeria police force is worried over the criminal activities of cattle rustlers around t Falgore Forest, noting that the forest serves as a hideout,.
He disclosed that, the forth coming National Security Summit, which would attended by all governors, traditional rulers and Security agencies would serve as a forum to find lasting solution to the problem and other security challenges confronting the region.
He thanked the state governor for supporting the State Police Command with working materials, with hopes that the good relationship would be maintained.
