The member representing Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Dr. Stella Dorgu, has defended the action of Bayelsa State Government in having its flag, coat of arms and anthem, saying it was in tandem with the provision of the Nigerian constitution.

Dorgu, who replaced Governor Seriake Dickson at the National Assembly, said Bayelsa was not the first state to embark on having its symbols and anthem and as such the attack on the state government was uncalled for.

He said it was a right which Bayelsa State cannot be denied, since several other states with the same rights had equally exercised same.

The decision by Bayelsa Government in this regard, she noted was as “a result of its commitment to the propagation of Ijaw culture, language, history and ideals as well as create a platform for the government to rally its people for positive development in the context of a united, egalitarian and democratic Nigeria.

“I believe that we are just making mountain out of nothing. You know what the provisions of the constitution are.

You also know Bayelsa is not the first state to embark on that and you will appreciate it is also because of where Bayelsa is coming from.”
